About Me

Hello. I am a Professor of Sociology and Social Policy in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at Oxford University. I am also a Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton College and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the International Inequalities Institute at the LSE.

I study the causes and consequences of social inequality, with a focus on the political economy of health, welfare reform, and processes of elite formation. My research has been published in the American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, The Lancet, British Medical Journal, and Socio-Economic Review.

I am currently writing a book on the British elite with Sam Friedman (under contract with Harvard University Press).
